Urbanist Ripoff [GLOG Class]

“It’s a heavy burden, having a heart as big as a city. And heavier still when it loves you back”

Urbanist

Reflavor of Gokun's Urbanist.

Start with: worker’s clothing; street instrument [and the skill to play it]; a pack of cigarettes that never run out, as long as they’re shared for free; matchbox with 50 matches

  1. Born on the Street, Friend of the Downtrodden

  2. Hearsay, +1 Friend

  3. Her Broken Heart, +1 Friend

  4. It All Clicks,+1 Friend

A: Born on the Street

You know the city like the back of your hand. You can always tell where exactly you are by the feel of the cobblestone under your feet, and know every locale frequented by any city drunk. You get a -2 penalty to reaction rolls from wealthy people.

A: Friend of the Downtrodden

Roll or choose one group below. You are seen as an ally and a friend by them.

  1. Pigeons - they are never scared by your presence, and are willing to carry messages wherever you wish for a reasonable fee in seeds. You can read bird droppings as scholars read books.

  2. Rats - denizens of the undercity, you’re always welcome in their courts. Your body is capable of sustaining itself on the most foul of meals.

  3. Cockroaches - they are actually very clean and swell guys, if you get to know them. You become immune to common diseases, and gain a +2 bonus to resisting plagues. Your hands are always spotless.

  4. Homeless - victims of fate, and the crumbling housing market. You can understand the marks they leave on walls, no matter how often their code changes, and know how to always locate a safe place to spend the night.

  5. Kid Gangs - masters of pickpocketing, alleyway brawls, and bizarre slang. You can understand them the way only another kid could. You gain an additional item slot, where any item carried becomes undetectable, even to the eyes of a vigilant parent.

  6. Students - sad overworked masses populating the city’s universities during the day, and her numerous pubs at night. You can do an hour's labor in ten minutes, and a day's labor in two hours.

  7. Stray Cats - locked in a forever war against the vile canine. You are fluent in their tongue, though what they say is rarely helpful, and can squeeze into any opening your head would fit through, as long as you’re not wearing armor.

  8. Stray Dogs - just very good boys. You gain the ability to teach any dog any trick or command in 10 minutes time.

  9. Gargoyles - unmoving as statues, they hide in plain sight as decoration. You can speak their language, which sounds like stone grinding against stone. As long as you’re motionless, you don’t need to drink, eat, sleep, and your muscles never ache.

  10. Ghosts - echoes of gruesome and brutal events, and oh boy, did this city have a lot of these. You can see and communicate with them. This is more annoying than useful.

B: Hearsay

The city speaks of you - any major NPC has a [template]-in-6 chance of knowing your name.

The city speaks to you - put your ear up to the cobblestone and say a name, and it will reveal what rumors are spoken nearby about that person.

C: Her Broken Heart

By looking at street art, you can instantly figure out who painted it. If you take a minute inspect it, it will speak to you in detail of any events that will transpire on city streets in the near future [political slogans foretell riots, assassinations, and manifesto readings; crude drawings foretell street fights and arrests; and so on].

D: It All Clicks

Traffic on the streets cannot slow you down. You always know a shortcut to any part of the city, that takes no more than half of the usual travel time. You will never again be mugged by citizens of the city. You can't be killed by city geography.
